The observation deck of Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn) is located at the top of the main tower, offering a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River and Bangkok's skyline. Below is a detailed guide on transportation options to and from the city center:
🚢 Ferry Transfers (Highly Recommended)
1. BTS + Public Ferry: Take the BTS to Saphan Taksin Station (S6), exit at Exit 2, and walk to the central pier.
2. Orange Flag Boat: Purchase a 15 THB ticket and take the northbound Orange Flag Boat to N8 Pier (Tha Tien).
3. Shuttle Ferry: Transfer to the shuttle ferry at N8 Pier to cross the river. The one-way fare is 3 THB, and the ride takes about 5 minutes to reach the entrance of Wat Arun.
🚕 Taxi/Ride-Hailing Services
Take a taxi or book a Grab directly from the city center. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes and costs around 150-200 THB. Avoid peak hours (07:00-09:00, 16:00-19:00).
🚌 Public Bus
Take bus routes 19, 57, or 83 to a stop near Wat Arun, then walk about 10 minutes. Fares range from 8-25 THB depending on the route, making this a budget-friendly option.
📍 Observation Deck Tips
- Climbing the Tower: The main tower's stairs are steep (nearly 70 degrees). Use the handrails and proceed slowly. Wear non-slip flat shoes.
- Opening Hours: 08:00-18:30. The best time for photography is two hours before sunset.
- Return Transportation: You can return via the same route or book a Grab at the entrance. For nighttime travel, book your ride early to avoid long waits.
💡 Additional Tips
- Dress Code: Wear knee-length pants/skirts and avoid sleeveless tops. Shawls can be rented at the entrance for 50 THB.
- Avoid Crowds: Arrive before 09:00 AM and plan visits to nearby attractions like the Grand Palace and Wat Pho.
If you choose the ferry for your return trip, note that the last boat departs around 18:00. Make sure to allow enough time to return to the city center!
