Introducing Donghe Ancient Town

Shuhe Ancient Town, called "Shaowu" in Naxi language, was named after the Jubao Mountain behind the village, which looks like a piled peak. The name was later changed to mean "the village under the peak". It is one of the earliest settlements of Naxi ancestors in Lijiang Basin and an important and well-preserved market town on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road.

It is a living example of the Naxi people's transition from agricultural to commercial civilization, and a model of market town development shaped by opening up to the outside world and the activities of horse caravans. Shuhe is a key component of the World Cultural Heritage Old Town of Lijiang and was selected by CCTV as one of China's "Charming Towns" in 2005.
