150-Year-Old Temple on the Thonburi Side, Wat Awut Wiksitaram

- Originally, locals called it Wat Pak Khlong Bang Phlat or Wat Bang Phlat Nok. There is a story that a group of monks and villagers migrated from Ayutthaya when the city fell in 1767 and settled here. Later, in 1879, it was officially established as a temple. Colonel Phraya Awut Phan Phet (Thuam), the Director of the Armory under King Chulalongkorn, patronized the temple and renovated the monastic buildings. He then requested royal permission to rename the temple. The King graciously granted the name "Wat Awut Wiksitaram" in 1899, meaning "Temple of Phraya Awut and Khun Ying Yaem," who were the renovators.
