Two Blissful Weeks in Paradise

1. Location: Situated close to the main island, just a 25-minute speedboat journey will get you there. If you've experienced a seaplane ride, you know how tiring it can be. For those prone to motion sickness, the brief speedboat trip is much easier. Plus, seaplanes have strict operating hours, and missing one means a delay reaching the island. Speedboats don't have this issue; even if you arrive in Malé by 5 PM, you can still make it to the island without needing to stay overnight.2. Island Setting: Although the island is small, it's packed with varied daily activities, both complimentary and paid. Whether you want to relax or engage in water sports, there are options available—you won't feel idle. The island’s compactness is an advantage; I've previously stayed on larger islands where waiting for a buggy took ages. Here, everything is walkable within 5–10 minutes, which is super handy. Baros is an established island with excellent ecological conditions and stunning coral reefs, perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts.3. Service: Exceptional. Our butler, Sujata, was especially commendable. She swiftly and efficiently addressed all our needs. For my partner's birthday, she helped me organize a surprise dinner. Later, at the bar, she surprised us by having the band perform a birthday song when we asked to borrow a phone for photos. When my partner got numerous sandfly bites, she quickly brought in the island’s doctor. She truly is an outstanding butler. One minor complaint is with the cleaning staff; they occasionally forgot to restock tissues and dental kits, and the beach villa’s sheets were pilled when we first arrived. They rectified these issues quickly, but ideally, such problems shouldn't arise. Apart from this, the service from the butler and restaurant staff was excellent.4. Accommodation: The rooms are stunning, particularly the water villas. Looking out from the bathroom window is like gazing at ever-changing artwork. The beach villa is also beautiful; the sand is soft and inviting for a barefoot walk, and the outdoor bathing area is spectacular upon entering. However, a caution: those afraid of bugs might prefer avoiding the beach villa. Baros’s rich ecosystem means there's an array of wildlife—hermit crabs, birds, chameleons outside, and geckos inside. My partner was too unsettled to sleep due to this, and we moved to a water villa the next day. The bug issue is not exclusive to Baros; any well-preserved island will experience it. While daytime might seem fine, nocturnal creatures often appear. If bugs aren’t your thing, a water villa is the best pick. Some additional notes: 1. The island doesn't offer mosquito spray or floral water, only cream. With its pristine environment, the bugs are quite relentless. If you’re prone to bites, make sure to apply the cream regularly. My partner forgot one evening at dinner and ended up with lots of bites, which took days to heal.2. Celebrating a special event like a birthday or anniversary? Don’t miss Baros’s special Piano Deck experience. It offers a private spot in the sea for enjoying champagne and dinner while watching the sunset, and you might even catch sight of sharks. It’s truly a matchless experience.3. The spa therapist was exceptional, though I didn’t catch her name. After intense activities like snorkeling and swimming, her Swedish massage worked wonders—applying just the right amount of pressure. It was extremely rejuvenating, leaving me feeling revitalized.
