1. Beihai Impressions: Why Beihai?
· King of cost performance: No need to go abroad, you can enjoy tropical island romance with a budget of just a few thousand yuan.
· Food paradise: Seafood is so cheap it feels like a “mistake,” from street food to alley snacks, happiness overload.
· Diverse experiences: Enjoy the comfort of modern resorts, the history of century-old streets, and the wildness of volcanic islands.
2. Itinerary Planning: 3 days 2 nights, classic activities arranged like this
Day 1: Chasing waves at Silver Beach - Feast at Qiaogang - Dream hunting in Old Street
· Morning: Arrive in Beihai, check into a hotel (recommended near Silver Beach or Old Street). Rest briefly, then head straight to Silver Beach! Barefoot on the “Number One Beach Under Heaven” with its fine white sand, feel the charm of “long beach, fine white sand, clean water temperature, soft waves.”
· Evening: Have dinner at Qiaogang Style Street! This is a gathering place for overseas Vietnamese returnees, with bilingual Chinese-Vietnamese food signs. Must-try list:
· Desserts: 24 Building Desserts, Youjian Ice Room (chestnut taro, Qingbuliang are amazing!)
· Snacks: Qiaoyue Family rice rolls, various freshly grilled seafood, fried spring rolls
· Main dish: A bowl of crab vermicelli so fresh it’ll blow your mind
· Night: Stroll along Zhuhai Road’s century-old street, with weathered arcade buildings, swaying lanterns, artistic cafes and shops, under the dim light it feels like traveling back to a bustling trading port a hundred years ago.
Day 2: Ferry to the island - Volcanic wonders - Sunset silhouettes
· All day: Weizhou Island is the soul of Beihai! Book ferry tickets (about 150 RMB one way) and island entry tickets (98 RMB) in advance on the “Lai You Ba” official website.
· Morning: Take the ferry to the island (about 80 minutes), check into a guesthouse (recommended near Nanwan Street or Dishui Danping). Rent a small electric scooter (60-80 RMB/day) and start your free island tour!
· Afternoon: Visit Crocodile Mountain Volcano Park (ticket required), see the spectacular collision of volcanic lava relics and sea waves; at Dishui Danping, witness the sea erosion wonder where water drips year-round on the rocks like a curtain of pearls.
· Dusk: This is the most romantic moment on Weizhou Island! Go to Shiluokou Beach or Dishui Danping to wait for an unforgettable sea sunset. The sunset dyes the sky and sea orange-red, stunningly beautiful and speechless.
Day 3: Sunrise at Catholic Church - Depart from the island
· Early morning: Get up early to see a magnificent sea sunrise at Five Color Beach. At low tide, the huge volcanic lava platform is exposed, showing colorful patterns under the sunlight.
· Morning: Visit Shengtang Catholic Church, a century-old church built of coral stone, peaceful and solemn, with a very photogenic backyard garden.
· Noon: Buy fresh seafood at Nanwan Street seafood market, have it cooked by local vendors, enjoy a sumptuous feast, then happily take the ferry back to Beihai to end your trip.
[Optional if you have more time] If you have an extra day, visit Liuxia Village, the filming location of “The Bad Kids,” a very fresh Japanese-style village perfect for photos!
3. Travel TIPS: Essential info and pitfall avoidance
· Transportation:
· Long-distance: Fly directly to Beihai Fucheng Airport; high-speed train to “Beihai Station” is most convenient.
· Within city: Taxis are cheap, ride-hailing is convenient. Riding shared electric scooters around the city is very pleasant.
· Accommodation:
· Beihai city: For convenience in dining and drinking, choose near Old Street; for sea views and resort feel, choose near Silver Beach.
· On Weizhou Island: For sunsets, choose the west coast (Dishui Danping, Shiluokou); for lively atmosphere and easy seafood, choose Nanwan Street; for sunrises, choose the east coast (near Five Color Beach).
· Food do’s and don’ts:
· ✅Must-eat: Salt and pepper mantis shrimp, garlic vermicelli steamed scallops, charcoal-grilled oysters, Vietnamese rice rolls, various desserts, fried ice cream.
· ⚠️Caution: Watch the seller’s hands when buying seafood to avoid swapping; clarify if the price is “per piece” or “per pound”; negotiate cooking fees in advance.
· Best season: April to November is the best travel period, with July-August hottest but suitable for swimming, September-October cool and pleasant water temperature. Avoid typhoon season.
Beihai is not a trip you just pass through in a hurry. It is the leisure of sitting on the beach waiting for the wind, the satisfaction of biting into the first juicy oyster, the freedom of riding a small electric scooter through banana groves and sea breeze.
The summer you want, Beihai has it all. Set off now and write your Beihai story!
