Reverse Holiday Travel: Hidden in Hepu Lianzhou by the Beibu Gulf, the Slow Time of the Millennium Ancient Port is Super Healing
Having traveled through the coastal cities of Guangxi and Guangdong, if asked which ancient city is the most unforgettable, Lianzhou Ancient City in Hepu, Beihai, definitely ranks at the top — this is my third time coming here. Most people know Beihai Silver Beach, but few recognize this "Millennium Han County" hidden beside Beihai. It carries the profound heritage of an ancient port and the fresh leisure of a seaside town. This time, besides the must-visit Hanlü Cultural Park and Dongpo Pavilion, we also found several quiet old streets and alleys free from crowds. If you want to avoid the crowds and find some peace during the holiday, this Lianzhou Ancient City guide is a must-save~
🚗 Transportation Guide
- High-speed rail: Take the high-speed train directly to Hepu Station, then a 15-minute taxi ride to the core area of Lianzhou Ancient City, or rent a car for more flexibility.
- Self-driving: About 2.5 hours from Nanning, about 2 hours from Zhanjiang, the highway is smooth all the way, and parking in the city is convenient.
🗺️ 3 Days 2 Nights Holiday Highlights Route
Day 1: Depart from Nanning/Zhanjiang → Lianzhou Ancient City Old Street → Hanlü Cultural Park
Day 2: Dongpo Pavilion → Haijiao Pavilion → Hepu Han Dynasty Culture Museum → Waisha Island
Day 3: Quzhang Liuhu Dong → Yong’an Dashi Pavilion → Huanzhu Square
🌟 Lianzhou Must-Visit: Millennium Ancient Port Cultural Core Area
- 🏛️ Hanlü Cultural Park: A "living fossil" restoring the Han Dynasty Hepu Port style, the blue bricks and Han tiles hide the glory of the "starting point of the Maritime Silk Road." Climb the Sea View Tower for a panoramic view of the ancient city. The Han Dynasty costume experience is perfect for photos.
- 🏮 Lianzhou Ancient City Old Street: A more rustic "time corridor" than Beihai Old Street, with weathered arcade buildings and clusters of old shops, without the noise of over-commercialization. Buy a Hepu big mooncake at the old "Huangjiayue" shop, stroll slowly along Zhongshan Road, and listen to the thousand-year stories told by the old arcades.
- 📜 Hepu Han Dynasty Culture Museum: A secret place housing "national treasure-level" artifacts, the Western Han bronze phoenix lamp and bronze horse figurines witness the ancient port’s prosperity. The exhibition is clearly organized, and only after visiting can you truly understand Hepu’s "Han County heritage."
Other Unmissable Attractions
- 🌿 Dongpo Pavilion & Haijiao Pavilion: The elegant literary charm of the "Twin Pavilions Reflecting the Ancient County." Dongpo Pavilion was Su Shi’s residence during his exile in Hepu, with an ancient banyan tree shading it; Haijiao Pavilion is built by Lianzhou Bay, with a plaque reading "Sea and Sky in One View," expressing the grandeur of the seaside ancient city.
- 🛶 Quzhang Liuhu Dong: A "Little Guilin" hidden among mountains and waters, where lake light and mountain scenery reflect each other, with ancient villages scattered around. Take a bamboo raft to tour the lake, watch the green mountains reflected on both shores, few people and peaceful scenery make it super healing.
🏡 Hidden Gems (Few People, Beautiful Scenery!)
- Yong’an Dashi Pavilion: A Ming Dynasty military fortress-style building, still intact after centuries of wind and rain. The pavilion’s flying eaves and upturned corners offer a view of the Beibu Gulf, with almost no tourists disturbing the peace.
- Shangyang Ancient Wharf: A more niche "ancient ferry site" than Hepu Port, with a bluestone path extending to the sea. At low tide, you can see the remains of ancient ship piles. Watching fishing boats return to port at dusk creates a full atmospheric vibe.
💡 Holiday Travel Tips
- Attractions in Lianzhou Ancient City are concentrated and can be explored on foot; for surrounding spots like Quzhang and Yong’an, self-driving or carpooling is recommended.
- Must-try local foods: Hepu big mooncake (freshly made and super fragrant), chicken vine leaves, Huangji roast meats at Gongguan, seafood porridge.
- Recommended accommodation: guesthouses around Zhongshan Road, with windows facing the arcades, where you can hear the lively sounds of the old street morning market.
This "Millennium Han County" hidden by the Beibu Gulf carries both the historical depth of an ancient port and the relaxed charm of a seaside town. If you don’t want to squeeze into popular beaches during the holiday, come to Lianzhou Ancient City, and slowly savor the taste of time among the arcade old streets and Han tomb sites~
