The Summer Palace (formerly the Qingyiyuan) is an imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
It is one of the main places you must visit when in Beijing. The place covers an area of 3.009 sq.Km, where you can find over 3,000 Chinese ancient buildings that house a collection of over 40,000 valuable historical relics from various dynasties.
The Summer Palace has been a public park since 1924. It has been included into UNESCO World Heritage list in 1998.
The place is huge and you need at least 2-3 hours to visit it. You can also take a boat to go around.
