Immerse yourself in autumn without spending a penny! A hidden autumn secret in Fangshan
📍Shuiyu Village Folk Tourism Village
🚘 Located in Nanjiao Township, Fangshan District, Beijing. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to drive from the city center. For more accuracy, search directly for "Shuiyu Village Red Leaf Trail Entrance" (about 10 minutes closer than searching for the village entrance). The parking lot is free, and after parking, it’s just a 2-minute walk to see the red leaves!
🚌 By bus, take a bus from the city to Fangshan Bus Station and transfer to a small bus, which takes about 1 hour longer. It’s recommended to drive with the whole family to enjoy the autumn scenery~
📅 Best time to view the red leaves
The red leaves in Shuiyu Village are affected by temperature, so the viewing period varies slightly each year. This year, the best time is from mid-October to early November!
Mid-October: Red leaves start to turn, with smoke trees beginning to change color, showing a mix of red and yellow with rich layers.
Late October to early November: The red leaves reach their peak, the entire forest turns a deep red, and the trail is completely wrapped in red leaves—perfect for taking stunning photos.
After mid-November: The red leaves gradually fall. Although there is a fallen leaf atmosphere, the viewing quality decreases. Don’t miss the golden period if you want to see vibrant red leaves!
🚶 Autumn hiking tips
✅ The soul of autumn in Shuiyu Village is on this red leaf trail! It’s 10 times more beautiful than ordinary hiking routes and easy enough for elderly and children to walk.
The core area is the mountain red leaf trail behind, about 3 kilometers round trip, taking about 1.5 hours.
✅ Wear light-colored clothes (white, beige) for better photos of the red leaves; bring a small basket to collect red leaves as bookmarks; the best light is at 10 a.m. or 3 p.m., avoid strong midday light; there will be more people than usual during the red leaf season, but it’s never crowded, so feel free to go!
📸 Autumn photography tips
Panorama: Want to capture the spectacular "red leaves covering the entire trail"? Have someone stand on the gentle slope opposite the trail (such as a small platform beside the trail). Open the camera on your phone, zoom in 2-4 times, and slowly move the phone along the direction of the trail. This avoids messy branches and perfectly blends the person with the red leaf forest.
Props bonus: Bring two portable camping chairs. When tired, rest with your friends at the mountain top trail, bask in the warm autumn sun, listen to the wind sweeping the red leaves, and casually take a photo together for a cozy vibe.
Pick a few intact red leaves to hold as props, wave your hand or place them near your ear for more natural poses.
Pick a branch with red leaves to hold and gently sway it while walking for more lively dynamic shots.
