The Church of Saint Sava is the largest Eastern Orthodox church in the world to date and ranks among the top ten churches globally. Construction began in 1935 but was halted multiple times due to two world wars and political turmoil. The main structure was completed in 2003, while interior decoration is still ongoing. The church's architecture combines Byzantine and Serbian traditional styles, built entirely of pure white marble. The main dome is 70 meters high with a diameter of 26.5 meters, second only to the Byzantine dome of Hagia Sophia in Turkey. The dome features a double-shell structure, cast from 4,000 tons of bronze, and its installation took 20 days using 16 cranes. The bronze dome is topped with a 12-meter-high gilded cross. Four bell towers are evenly embedded at the four right angles of the cross-shaped layout, housing a total of 49 bronze bells. When the bells ring, all four towers sound together, filling Belgrade with melodious and pleasant chimes.
