To the beautiful Swiss city of Interlaken

Interlaken, a city overlooking the famous Jungfrau peak in the Alps, is a resort town sandwiched between two lakes, Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, as its name suggests. Travelers are greeted by crisp air and picturesque scenery, but the mountains and lakes aren't the only attractions.

The Aare River, which flows through the city, is a pure stream that flows from Lake Brienz to Lake Thun. Its glacial source, the water is incredibly clear and sparkles with an emerald blue color. In summer, the riverside bustles with people enjoying walks and bike rides, and the braver among you try a "river float." Floating in the cool water and floating down to the center of town is a unique summer experience only found in Interlaken. Watching this from the bridge, you'll be impressed by the Swiss people's affinity with nature.

Another drink that surprises travelers is a uniquely Swiss beverage: carbonated whey. Whey is the whey produced in cheese making, and is almost unfamiliar in Japan. A refreshing version of this drink, "Rivella," could be called Switzerland's national drink. It's slightly sweet and has a minty cooling sensation that soothes tired bodies. You can find it in Interlaken's cafes and shops, making it the perfect drink after a walk along the Aare River.

Interlaken is known as a gateway to alpine climbing and scenic railways, but the town itself is also very pleasant. Just listening to the murmuring of the river and resting on a bench with a carbonated whey drink in hand will leave a lasting impression on your travels. Interlaken is a town where you can experience both the grandeur and simplicity that are so characteristic of Switzerland.
