My last Iceland post, saving the best until last!
In the Haukadalur Valley lies a patch of Earth that breathes—steam hisses, mud bubbles, and boiling water shoots skyward. This is Geysir, the original geyser that gave its name to all others. Though Geysir itself rarely erupts now, its neighbour Strokkur more than makes up for it, blasting water 20–30 metres into the air every few minutes like clockwork.
The surrounding geothermal field is otherworldly—pools shimmer with unreal blues and oranges, and the ground pulses with heat. There’s a strange silence between eruptions, broken only by the wind and the bubbling earth beneath your feet.
It’s not just a spectacle—it’s a reminder of Iceland’s restless geology. Fire simmers just below the surface, and here, you can feel it.
