Northern Xinjiang Beauty

We drove from Urumqi to Kanas Lake Scenic Area in the Altay Perfecture which took a few days of lengthy driving. This region borders Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.

The air was pure and the water crystal clear. You have to get a scenic area bus to reach the top which took almost an hour. The scenery was breathtaking and the bus can stop at several points depending on what you want to see.

Once you arrive at the highest point, I highly recommend walking up the boardwalk to the very top. The views will not disappoint.

We went in early May and the lake was just beginning to melt. In the summer the lake is a striking turquoise color.
