A five-minute taxi ride from Osiria Station on the Donghae Line. Located on a rocky outcrop near the sea, this temple is said to grant one wish. Built in 1376 during the Goryeo Dynasty, the temple is home to the Haesu Gwangnam Buddha, one of Korea's largest statues, perched on a hilltop.
The temple grounds are home to various Buddhist statues, including stone statues of the 12 zodiac signs and the Dolhareubang, the guardian deity of Jeju Island. Visitors are also greeted by the Golden Pig and Hotei, who are said to bring good fortune.
The temple's entrance is dominated by 108 steps, and climbing them is said to rid oneself of worldly desires. On the way to the main hall, there are many sights to enjoy, including throwing offerings from the bridge.
It's believed that if you pray sincerely to the 10-meter-tall Haesu Kannon Buddha, one wish will be granted. Visitors can purchase a tile with their wish on it for 10,000 won and donate it to the temple. It's also said that if you write your wish for love on a gold leaf (1,000 won) or successfully flip a coin, your wish will come true.
The approach to the temple is lined with stalls, where you can purchase souvenirs and enjoy a wide variety of snacks.
The temple is easily accessible by taxi from the nearest station. There are plenty of taxis waiting for you on the way back. Because the Donghae Line has limited service, it's best to plan your visit with ample space. Taking a taxi from a subway station on Line 2 is also recommended.
