Gamcheon-dong Culture Village is located in Saha District, Busan, and is one of Busan’s famous tourist attractions. This was originally a gathering place for refugees during the Korean War, and residents began settling here in the 1950s. As time went by, after the 1990s, with the joint efforts of the government and art groups, this old community was transformed into a colorful art village, giving the originally quiet mountain city a brand new look.
Since Gamcheon-dong is located at a high altitude and transportation is inconvenient, it is recommended to take a bus or use a ride-hailing app (such as Ubar), which will be relatively easier.
Visiting the village is free, no tickets are required, and you can freely explore every corner.
The village has rich painted walls, installation art, and murals and statues with themes of "The Little Prince" and desert foxes, full of childlike fun and artistic atmosphere.
Sky Ridge (Sky Ridge Observatory) overlooks the entire colorful village and the mountain and sea scenery. It is known as the "Korean version of Machu Picchu" and is an excellent photo-taking spot.
There are many cafes, souvenir shops and snack stalls in the village. It is recommended to try the local hot Taiyaki, which has a sweet and heart-warming red bean filling.
There are many slopes and stairs in the village, so it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes.
There are some hanbok rental shops, but the makeup, hair and clothing quality is rather ordinary. If you want to take formal hanbok photos, it is recommended to find a professional location.
It is recommended to arrange a half-day tour, which is just right for leisurely strolling and taking photos.
Gamcheon-dong Culture Village is a beautiful space that blends history, art and local life. It is not only suitable for taking photos and checking in, but also allows you to feel the residents' dedication to their home. Whether it is your first time to Busan or you are revisiting the old place, this is a great place to slow down and savor it.
