Wat Phra That Doi Suthep Ratchaworawihan was built in 1926 and is located in Doi Suthep-Pui National Park. According to legend, Phraya Kuena and Phra Sumana Thera prayed to cast a spell on the auspicious elephant to determine the location of the Buddha's relics. When the auspicious elephant reached the top of Doi Suthep, it roared three times and circled it three times before kneeling on the top of the mountain. The auspicious elephant fell down. Therefore, Phraya Kuena ordered the construction of a chedi to enshrine the Buddha's relics on the top of Doi Suthep, which has been with Chiang Mai ever since.
