Chongming Island 🇨🇳 Shanghai

A weekend getaway or a day out the city. Chongming is a quick escape from the big city.

For those who like to cycle you can get there with your bikes in a 'Huolala' in around an hour from downtown Shanghai or you can head to Baoshan and get the ferry across to the main town on Chongming. Chongming is mainly farmland and residential. It is ridiculously flat and the main road around Chongming is around 140km There are hundreds of little side streets that head through the farms and trees for a quiet and relatively traffic free ride. We've often taken a picnic or snacks too as there are limited stops for food once out of the main town, but there is a number of nice verandas to sit in and escape the sun.

When we've stayed the night in Chongming we've often used the Holiday Inn Express as they accept foreigners without and hassle and have a great breakfast, which even included 'Chongming Cake' when we were there.

Around the island there are stop offs and touristy areas. We found an adventure park in the north to play 'Total wipeout' style games and obstacle courses.
