Chongqing Guotai Art Center is located at No. 1 Linjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, covering an area of 2.91 hectares and a construction area of 35,000 square meters. The art Center consists of two parts: Cathay Pacific Grand Theatre and Chongqing Art Museum. It was completed, put into use and opened to public by January 25, 2013.
Architectural features and historical background
The design of Chongqing Guotai Art Center is inspired by the traditional Chinese national style with domination of classic Sichuan notes. The architectural appearance is characterized by the intertwining of black and red “questions”, which looks like a burning bonfire from a distance. The building is not only one of Chongqing's cultural landmarks, but also one of Chongqing's “Top ten landmark Buildings” and won the 2011 National high-quality steel structure Gold Award.
Main facilities and functions
Cathay Pacific Grand Theater: It includes an 800-seat medium-sized theater and two 350-seat small theaters.The medium-sized theater is mainly used for the performance of musical cabarets and traditional dramas. One of the small theaters doubles as a concert hall and is mainly used for choral performances. The other small theater is used as a multi-function hall for media art displays and art reports.
Chongqing Art Museum: Mainly undertakes domestic and foreign arts and crafts exhibitions and various cultural and artistic exchange activities.The museum has a total of 8,200 square meters of exhibition halls, which are suitable for displaying various art forms such as Chinese painting, oil painting, printmaking, and small sculpture. The Chongqing Art Museum often holds various exhibitions, such as the 4th Chongqing Chinese Painting Exhibition, New Era, New Journey, New Chongqing-National Famous Painting Chongqing Art Exhibition, etc. These exhibitions not only showcase the latest achievements of Chongqing's art creation, but also attract a large number of visitors to visit.
For example, during the Spring Festival in 2025, the Chongqing Art Museum launched the "Graphic and English-Annual Exhibition of Artists' Works" and the Second New Era, New Journey, New Chongqing-National Famous Paintings Chongqing" Art Exhibition", which received an average of more than 2,000 visitors a day, becoming a cultural landmark for citizens and tourists.
