I recently travelled to Wulong Karst scenic area with my family, eager to see the natural beauty of the area. We speak practically no Chinese so were figuring things out along the way. We decided to travel independently rather than take a tour. We started in Chongqing and took the train quite easily to Wulong. Make sure to go to the Chongqing South Square entrance to get the train, which is a local one. The train journey took around 2.5hrs. we had booked into a local hotel opposite the tourist centre about 30mins drive from the train centre.
When we arrived at the station after 6,we were immediately approached by a driver offering a lift. We had planned to get a Didi, but decided to accept the driver's offer as he was very friendly.
I found it hard to find information online on how to book tickets to the scenic area. We wanted to book the 3 bridges and Longshui Gorge at least. But it was only possible on trip.com to book 3 bridges or else a full tour from Chongqing. In the end I booked 3 bridges and decided to just see what else might happen in the morning.
We were travelling in April and thankfully it wasn't too busy. We went to the tourist centre at about 9am and with the help of a translation app found out that we could see the 3 Natural Bridges and at the end buy a ticket for Longshui gorge. Perfect!
With our prebought 3 bridges tickets registered with passports it was very easy to just hop on the bus downstairs in the tourist centre signposted for the 3 Natural bridges and get driven to the site.
At the entrance, we walked through the wrong gate and missed the glass platform so don't make that mistake. The walk is beautiful and easy to follow. it is a one way route with amazing scenery and a glass elevator.
At the exit we bought tickets easily to the Longshui Gorge and hopped on a bus that drove us there. this site is also amazing, with another glass elevator and winding stairs hugging the gorge. A spectacular walk. At the end of this route we hopped on another bus that brought us back to the tourist centre. Transfer buses are included in the entrance prices.
Overall it was a great day and quite easy. Plenty of opportunities for snacks along the way and some interesting tourist souvenirs. We left our hotel at 9am and were back in the town by 4pm. We stayed a second night in town but it would have been possible to get an onward train for the next adventure
