A must-visit for family trips: 3 days to explore Wudang Mountain in Shiyan, making kids happy and parents relaxed

As a Hubei local who loves traveling with kids, I finally added Wudang Mountain to my family travel list! I used to worry that the hiking trails would be too difficult for kids, but after visiting, I realized it was totally unnecessary~ Not only does it have fairyland-like scenery, but there are also plenty of kid-friendly spots to check out. Spending 3 days and 2 nights with the kids was super fun, and we also got to experience traditional culture❤️

📝|Parents, take note! Gather your teammates or girlfriends to travel with kids, direct flight in 2 hours, and we’ve organized the guide for you👇

Who would have thought! Wudang Mountain is seriously underrated! The title "Great Mountain Wudang" is well deserved, with a gentler vibe than the Three Mountains and Five Sacred Mountains~ No artificial smoke, just natural fairy aura. It’s super comfortable to bring kids here to escape the summer heat; the breeze is cool all the way, and the kids never complained about the heat🌬️

📍|Wudang Mountain, Shiyan, Hubei
✈️|The top choice for traveling with kids is the direct flight to “Shiyan Wudang Mountain Airport.” After landing, a 30-minute taxi ride takes you straight to the scenic area, no need to transfer
🚂|High-speed rail to “Wudangshan West Station” is also very convenient. Kids can move around more freely on the train, which is more comfortable than flying
🏨|Staying at “Benlai Homestay” on the mountain is super smart! At night, watch the mountain sunset with the kids, and in the morning, wait together for the sea of clouds at the Golden Summit. No need to rush down the mountain every day, making the family schedule very relaxed
🎫|264 RMB / person (including shuttle bus)! This price is a steal. After buying tickets, you can play inside the scenic area for unlimited days, take the shuttle bus as much as you want, and no need to queue repeatedly for tickets with kids
🚠|The Golden Summit cable car requires an extra ticket. It’s recommended to take the cable car up with kids to save energy for sightseeing, and choose either hiking or cable car down depending on the kids’ condition

🎡|【Super smooth family tour route】
Day ①: Taiji Lake (take a boat with kids to see the sky mirror) → Xuanyue Gate (simple visit to ancient buildings) → Visitor Center (buy tickets and rent audio guides) → Taizi Slope (take family photos with red walls) → (stay) Benlai Homestay (play family games with kids at night)
Day ②: Watch the sea of clouds at the Golden Summit from the homestay (see the stunning sunrise with kids) → Qiongtai Middle Viewpoint (tell kids Taoist stories) → Golden Summit (check in at the thousand-year-old copper hall) → Hike down Mingdao Trail (see the three heavenly gates, explore with kids along the way) → Nanyan Palace (cliffside photos + check in at popular spots) → Zixiao Palace (feel the grandeur of ancient architecture)
Day ③: Learn simple Tai Chi with kids in the morning (guided at the homestay) → Hike down to Yuxu Palace (kids can run freely) → Taihe Central Hot Springs (relax with kids in the hot springs) → View Taihe Tower from afar (take family commemorative photos)

🌄|【Family must-check spots, kids won’t want to leave!】
1⃣️ Golden Summit: The over 600-year-old gilded copper hall is stunning! At over 1600 meters altitude, it’s super cool in summer🧊 Standing at the top with kids, you can see the 72 peaks of Wudang. Tell kids the history of the copper hall; they listen very attentively and even ask questions
2⃣️ Zixiao Palace: A large Ming Dynasty architectural complex. In the sunlight, it looks like purple smoke is drifting. Kids say it’s “like a castle in a cartoon”~ Majestic and grand, walking inside with kids lets them feel the charm of traditional culture
3⃣️ Nanyan Palace: The over 700-year-old cliffside architecture is spectacular! Take kids to check in at the Dragon Head Incense, the Wall of Longevity, Happiness, and Health, and take family photos with the cliff peach wood sword📷 Kids are very interested in the patterns on the inscriptions and ask what they mean
4⃣️ Taizi Slope: “The same red walls as the Forbidden City” make for amazing photos! The winding Yellow River wall is perfect for walking and taking photos with kids. The “one pillar twelve beams” makes kids marvel at “how amazing the ancients were.” The 600-year-old painted wood carvings make kids lean in to see the details closely
5⃣️ Taiji Lake: Comparable to Qinghai Lake’s sky mirror! Blue sky and white clouds reflect in the water. When taking a boat with kids, they reach out to “touch the clouds,” super cute~ You can also let kids observe water birds and get close to nature

⚠️|【Essential tips for family trips】
▪️ The sea of clouds and mist depend on the weather, with a higher chance to see in the morning~ No matter the season, Wudang Mountain offers different beautiful views, bringing freshness to kids every time
▪️ Wudang Mountain is a “World Cultural Heritage” site with many cultural relics! Be sure to agree with kids in advance not to scribble, touch, or damage the relics
▪️ Renting an audio guide is very necessary! Explaining while touring helps kids learn more and makes the experience better
▪️ The clear paths are flat, suitable for younger kids or those with less stamina; the Mingdao Trail has many spots but is steep, suitable for school-age kids to challenge. Remember to prepare a light backpack and water bottle for the kids
