Stepping into Royal Legacy: A Visit to Ahsan Manzil Museum, Dhaka

If you're visiting Dhaka and love history, culture, or architecture, Ahsan Manzil Museum is an absolute must-see. Often called the "Pink Palace," this majestic building stands along the banks of the Buriganga River in Old Dhaka and once served as the official residential palace of the Nawabs of Dhaka.

My visit to Ahsan Manzil felt like stepping into a different century. The stunning Indo-Saracenic architectural style, pastel pink façade, and grand dome immediately grabbed my attention. Inside, the museum is well-curated with rooms that recreate the grandeur of Nawabi life—chandeliers, vintage furniture, and paintings that tell the story of a bygone era. What touched me the most was learning about the palace’s transformation from a royal residence to a heritage museum that preserves Dhaka’s rich colonial history.

One highlight was standing in the Darbar Hall—the royal court—where you can feel the echoes of decisions that once shaped this city. Walking through the galleries, I gained a deeper appreciation for how the Nawabs influenced not only Dhaka’s politics but also its culture and modernization.

Best time to visit? Try going between October and March, when the weather is cooler and more comfortable for walking around Old Dhaka. I recommend arriving in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and enjoy soft lighting for photos. Don’t forget to explore the nearby Sadarghat launch terminal afterward—it’s chaos, beauty, and life all rolled into one!

Whether you’re a tourist or a local rediscovering your city, Ahsan Manzil offers a unique glimpse into Dhaka’s royal past.
