Florence is the second city on the Italian tour. It was an important commercial and financial center in the Middle Ages and the birthplace of the Renaissance. Therefore, the city has many world-famous works of art and buildings.
The Duomo di Firenze introduced this time is one of the most important buildings of the Renaissance. This church is famous for its magnificent dome and exquisite appearance. Everyone knows that they have come to Florence once they see this unique appearance!
Similar to the Milan Cathedral, we bought a 2-day ticket to the top in advance. If you want to climb to the top, remember to buy it a month in advance. Otherwise, the tickets will be sold out!
We bought tickets in the morning and saw a long line 10 minutes early. So remember to arrive early! After we go in, we will see its most famous unsupported dome, which is really super spectacular and feel how powerful the architectural technology was at that time. Along the stairs, you will see the famous mural-The Last Judgment up close. Every stroke is very delicate, and you can't guess how it was conceived and painted at that time!
After admiring the spectacular frescoes, hell begins🤣 It takes 463 steps to climb to the top of the dome. This staircase is relatively narrow and winding, and there are many people without a good rest, which is very tiring. However, you can enjoy the frescoes inside the church and the beautiful scenery of Florence along the way. After reaching the top, you can enjoy the view of the entire city. I think it is worth the effort🤍
However, we all agree that there is no loss if we don't go up to the Campanile di Giotto opposite. It has a total of 414 steps. Although it is a little shorter than the dome, it is just as tiring! And it is surrounded by barbed wire, making it difficult to take good photos. So compared to the bell tower, it is better to save energy to climb the dome! 🤣
Visit tips
1. Make an appointment in advance: Due to the large number of tourists, there is a chance that you cannot reach the top. It is recommended to book tickets online in advance.
2. Visit in the morning or evening: avoid the crowds! It is best to visit in the morning or evening.
3. Climb the dome: Don’t miss the chance to climb the dome, it’s a lot of steps but worth it.
