The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Italian: Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore) is a Catholic church located in Florence, Italy. It serves as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Florence and is built in the Gothic style. Construction began in 1296, designed by architect Arnolfo di Cambio, and the dome was built by Filippo Brunelleschi, who was skilled in ancient Roman architecture. The cathedral was finally completed in 1436. In 1982, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the historic center of Florence. Up close, you will notice that almost every brick has different carvings, and the colors are very unique. It is a piece of architectural art that is well worth appreciating.
