In Yamanashi Prefecture in spring, after the cherry blossoms start to fade, the Shibazakura, whose English name is Pink Moss (which is completely different from the cherry tree), blooms. This is the origin of the Fuji Shibazakura Festival, which is held every year from mid-April to late May at Fuji Motosuko Resort. The date of the festival depends on the blooming period of that year, so check before you go. For 2024, it will be held until May 26.
Of course, the highlight of coming here is taking pictures of Mt. Fuji with a field of pink moss flowers in the foreground, but you have to look at the weather conditions on the day you go. We went during the first period of the festival, the flowers were not in full bloom yet, and it was a very cloudy day with not much sunlight, so we could not see Mt. Fuji clearly. However, walking in the field of flowers was quite enjoyable.
🚃 Getting there
There is a very large parking lot here, so it is very convenient for those who drive. For public transportation, there is a special shuttle bus service for this festival called the Shibazakura Liner. Tickets can be purchased at Kawaguchiko Station. It takes about 35 minutes to get to the festival site. Buses leave 1-2 times per hour.
