Hotel JAL City Fukuoka Tenjin is a relatively new hotel, having opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, and is now in its third year of operation. The smallest single room boasts a spacious 21 square meters.
Located just a minute's walk from Akasaka Station, the hotel is slightly removed from the two major hubs of Fukuoka: Tenjin and Hakata. It’s one subway stop or two bus stops from Tenjin, and about a 15-minute walk.
On the day of check-in, I first enjoyed afternoon tea at the restaurant on the first floor before heading up to the reception on the second floor. Self-check-in is available via machines, but you can also check in with the staff. I checked in at 4:30 PM.
Last month, I stayed at the Haneda branch of the same hotel chain and registered my membership via the app, allowing me to authenticate with a QR code. The hotel is a dedicated building with 280 rooms spread across floors 3 to 12. I was assigned a corner room on the 11th floor—lucky!
Membership certainly has its perks! While the hotel is flanked by buildings on both sides, meaning rooms below the 8th floor mostly face walls, and non-corner rooms lack good views, my membership ensured I got a room at the far end of the main road. Although it wasn’t a double-window corner room, the view was still excellent, with sights of Maizuru Park and Fukuoka Castle in the distance.
The room comes equipped with three types of Nespresso capsules and two bottles of water. The bedding is excellent, and the bathroom is well-designed, featuring a separate bathtub and shower room. The toilet and sink area are also spacious.
Soundproofing in the rooms is good. While the reception is on the second floor, the elevator from the first floor directly connects to the guest room floors. The card key system is convenient, lighting up only the floor you’re staying on.
The highlight of the stay was the breakfast. Served in the same location as the afternoon tea, the all-day dining area offers a variety of dishes. The egg station is particularly noteworthy, offering sunny-side-up eggs with a choice of soft yolk and bacon, or mentaiko omelets made to order.
Breakfast is delivered to your table for convenience. Unlimited mentaiko is available, allowing you to enjoy it generously. The grilled fish and salmon are excellent, and the sausages have a perfect texture. Most of the menu items are delicious.
The udon and miso soup are well-seasoned, the fruit selection is abundant, and there’s a wide variety of juices. After checking out, I took a bus to Ropponmatsu, which is a 12-minute ride, or a 7-minute ride from Yakuin. Thank you.
