In Fuzhou, Jiangxi, the hometown of "the Eastern Shakespeare" Tang Xianzu, a romantic legend crossing four centuries is unfolding. The large-scale live performance "Dreaming of the Peony Pavilion" has become a model of innovative expression of traditional culture with its unique charm.

The show deeply explores the plot and characters of "The Peony Pavilion," relying on high-tech stage technologies such as holographic projection, digital imaging, and a giant circular device, deeply integrating classical drama with modern technology. It vividly recreates the pavilions, plum trees, peonies, and the ghostly underworld from "The Peony Pavilion."

As night falls, the audience can stroll through a restored Ming Dynasty garden, feeling as if they are on the scene of the play "A Surprised Dream in the Garden." The performance innovatively adopts a "walking viewing" mode, where the audience moves with the plot through scene changes, experiencing a magical journey of "touring the garden," "startled dream," "seeking the dream," and "fulfilling the dream" in a 200-acre live setting.

The three acts "A Surprised Dream in the Garden," "Soul Wandering to Seek the Dream," and "Three Lives Fulfilling the Dream" portray the life-and-death dreamlike love story of Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei. The most stunning part is the main show on the lake, where a 30-meter diameter water screen projection and a 60-meter-long laser array vividly express the profound theme of "the living can die, the dead can live."
