The spacious rooms, starting from 56 m², offered floor-to-ceiling windows with views of either the Andaman Sea or Penang Hill. My stay featured a plush king bed, a marble bathroom with soaking tub, dual vanities, and thoughtful touches like nutmeg-infused toiletries, artisanal local snacks, and curated coffee and tea amenities. The color palette—calm neutrals, ochre, and ocean blue—reflected both the coastline and heritage inspiration.

Dining was a highlight. At Lili, I enjoyed elevated local cuisine presented for sharing—creative yet grounded in Penang’s roots. Afternoon tea at Good Society was refined, while Blacklinen impressed with expertly grilled meats and seafood in a moody, elegant setting. Each restaurant brought a distinct atmosphere, creating variety within one property.

The rooftop saline infinity pool overlooked the Straits of Malacca and offered a quiet space to unwind. A 24-hour gym and Nut&Meg Wellness Spa (focused on local herbs like nutmeg and pandan) rounded out the wellness offering. The thoughtful design extended into the shared areas, from the grand lobby staircase to the art installations paying tribute to Penang’s layered history.

The location along Northam Road made it easy to reach George Town’s UNESCO heritage zone, Gurney Drive, and hawker centers. The hotel also served well for business stays, with its Upperton Hall ballroom and well-equipped meeting rooms.

Service was discreet, warm, and detail-oriented—from personalized greetings to nightly turndown with local treats. It felt refined without being overly formal.
