Guanajuato 2-Day Guide (Proven and Effective Version)

🇲🇽Two-day guide to Guanajuato|||It was my first time to Mexico, so I arranged a 6-day tour of Mexico City + Guanajuato. The experience was unexpectedly good. Guanajuato in particular is built like a utopia during Christmas, with performances everywhere on the streets, making it very lively and suitable for all ages.

🌟How to get to Guanajuato from Mexico City
Airplane ✈️! Fly from NLU (New Airport) to BJX. The hotel door to door only takes 4 hours, which saves a lot of time. We saw many guides that recommended taking the bus, but we felt that the bus was more difficult to control. First, it was slow. Plus, it normally took almost 7 hours to get to the bus station at both ends. In addition, the journey was long and we were afraid of accidents.

🌟Must-visit places (walking the whole way)
- 📍Pipila Mountain Viewing Platform. Overlooking the whole city. Buy your ticket to go up the mountain at the place marked with the cable car in Figure 2. It is recommended to queue up early. It takes almost an hour to queue before sunset. It was dark when I went up for the first time. You can also walk up, but it's quite tiring.
- 📍Teatro Juárez. Unfortunately I didn’t watch the show inside this time. I only looked at the outside. It was very grand and beautiful to take pictures. The entrance is very lively, with many performances while eating.
- 📍The main square church is called Basílica Colegiata de Nuestra Señora. The square is the center of Guanajuato. It is very pleasant to sit, drink some water and watch people coming and going.
- 📍Comprehensive market Mercado Hidalgo. Highly recommended, suitable for eating. The local snacks are cheap and large, and you can also buy a lot of handicraft souvenirs. I bought a lot of them as gifts for my friends and colleagues. Some of the souvenirs in Figure 8 were bought in Mexico City.
- 📍There is a roast chicken restaurant Restaurant la Carreta on the way to the general market. The freshly baked roast chicken with pickled jalapenos is really amazing. It is recommended to pack half a chicken and take it back to the hotel as a snack.
- 📍University of Guanajuato. Just walk through the alley behind the main square. You can't take photos on the stairs now because there are boards blocking them. But the whole building is still very grand and majestic.
- 📍Mummy Museum. It seems to be quite popular, but the queue is very long. We didn’t have enough time when we arrived at the door and couldn’t go in. It is not recommended to take a taxi as it is too congested. The museum is on a mountain, and the last 1000 meters is a one-way street. It is very congested and you can only walk up, and walk down the mountain when you come back. It is a 30-minute walk from the city center one way.

🌟 Where to stay
If you have a short time, it is best to stay in the center so that it is convenient to go everywhere. But during holidays, living near the square is noisy as there are many activities. This is the hotel I booked. It's one street away from the square and is much better! All the decorations and facilities are new, and a large room with a terrace costs just over two hundred on Christmas Day. The avocado toast for breakfast was delicious.
