The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, also known as the "Chen Clan Academy", commonly known as the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, is located on Zhongshan 7th Road in Guangzhou. Chen's Academy was planned and built in the 14th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1888) and completed in the 19th year (1893). It is a "clan temple" built with donations from Chen clans from all over Guangdong Province. It provided a temporary residence for the Chen clan members to prepare for the imperial examinations, wait for office, pay taxes, and engage in litigation when they went to the provincial capital.

Chen's Academy faces south and the main building is 80 meters wide and deep. It has a square plan and a Chinese courtyard layout of "three entrances, three roads, nine halls and two wings". It consists of 9 halls, 6 courtyards, 10 wing rooms and a long corridor, with a construction area of ​​8,000 square meters. The overall structure has a rigorous layout, alternating between virtual and real, with a grand hall and a spacious and elegant courtyard.

The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is one of the largest extant traditional Cantonese buildings [1]. It is also the largest, best-preserved, and most beautifully decorated ancestral hall-style building in my country. It is known as the “Pearl of Lingnan Architectural Art.”
