Chen Clan Academy @Guangzhou_China
Metro Line 1 - 陈家祠 D exit
Is it worth a visit or not ???
1. Are you a Cultural & Architecture enthusiast ?
2. Are you interested in Southeast / East Asian architecture ?
陈家祠 is one of the very few attractions place needed to pay entrance fee ( 10 rmb ) and need proof of Identity ( either a student card / Passport / Citizenship Card )
Chen Clan Academy was a private academy of Chen Clan Family where people from branch families come to study 📚
In there , you can have a look at floor plan layout and how rooms are arranged of Traditional Chinese Family House and the figurines on the roof are the pride of the Place.
Wood , Stone & Mud craftings are the boasting features of the place with each figures representing their unique meaning.
It’s said that during the cultural revolution era , the academy served as a publishing house for the movement and hence saved itself from being destroyed
If you are from Singapore , Malaysia , Myanmar, Vietnam or any other SEA countries , you might be pretty familiar with the craftsmanship
Overall , it’s a fulfilling place for a cultural enthusiast
But just a big house with courtyards and museum if you are not interested.
I, myself , have been there twice and i feel peaceful to look at all the structures
It tends to be pretty crowded in the main courtyard area despite the entrance fee and all.
I feel like you will love it more during less crowded period.
