Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou is a hall-style building funded and built to commemorate Mr. Sun Yat-sen. It is one of the landmark buildings in Guangzhou.
Here is a detailed introduction:
- Basic Overview: Located at No. 299 Dongfeng Middle Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, it sits on the southern slope of Yuexiu Hill, on the former site of the presidential palace where Mr. Sun Yat-sen served as the Provisional President of the Republic of China. Designed by the famous architect Lü Yanzhi, construction began in 1929 and was completed in 1931. The total area covers 61,000 square meters, with the main building occupying 12,000 square meters. The hall is 48.63 meters high and 72.65 meters deep from north to south, making it the largest Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in the world.
- Architectural Features: It is a model of the organic combination of traditional Chinese architectural style and Western architectural structure. The exterior imitates the palace architecture style of the Song Dynasty, featuring an octagonal pointed roof with four projecting eaves. The main color scheme of blue glazed tiles and red doors, windows, and pillars is striking and vivid. The interior uses steel structure and reinforced concrete technology, with a 71-meter span in the main hall without any columns, creating a magnificent atmosphere.
- Historical Significance: It is a nationally protected key cultural relic and a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. On September 16, 1945, Japanese invasion army commander Okamura Yasuji signed the surrender document here with Commander Zhang Fakui, witnessing this important historical moment.
- Visiting Information: The park is open from 6:00 to 22:00, and the main building is open from 09:00 to 17:30. Full tickets cost 10 yuan, and half-price tickets cost 5 yuan. You can reach it by bus lines 2, 27, 42, or Metro Line 2.
