Nagoya Expressway's Beautiful Rest Stop: Hirugano Kogen Service Area

Driving north from Nagoya along the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway, I made a special stop at one of the most beautiful highway rest stops—Hirugano Kogen Service Area. This place is not just a pit stop but feels like a hidden mini attraction nestled in the mountains.

The view is breathtaking, with expansive highland scenery that changes with the seasons: lush greenery in spring and summer, slopes painted with autumn leaves, and a pristine blanket of snow in winter. Beyond basic facilities, the service area features local specialty shops selling souvenirs like Hida beef products and Hoba miso. You can also savor rich ice cream made from milk sourced from nearby farms.
