Swan Lake Animal Base, Haikou

Swan Lake Animal Base in Haikou was a big surprise for me. Usually I find most zoos to be rather dreadful, with animals kept in poor conditions. But at Swan Lake Animal Base most of the animals get to walk around freely.

For example the cranes, kapibara, ostriches and alpacas were all outside. You could walk up to them and feed them with lettuce or carrots that you could purchase on site. Some of the other animals were kept in enclosures, but those were still fairly big.

The Swan Lake Animal Base is located not too far away from Haikou Airport. I went there by taxi from the airport when we had a few hours to spare before the flight.
