#100 Ways to Travel
Attractions: #Hakodate Mountain Observatory #Hakodate Mountain Night View
📍Address: 19-7 Motomachi, Hakodate City, Hokkaido
🕰️Business hours: Hakodate Mountain Observatory 10:00~22:00/Hakodate Mountain Cable Car 10:00~22:00 (until 21:00 in winter)
💞Recommendation reason:
When you come to #Hakodate, the must-see attraction is the Hakodate Mountain #night view, which is listed as "the world's three major night views". It shines like a whale's tail on the Tanzu Strait.
Transportation tips: Take the System 1 Hakodate Mountain Bus from JR Hakodate Station to reach the Hakodate Cable Car Station and the Summit Station. Take the tram from JR Hakodate Station to "Jizugai Station" and walk about 10 minutes to the Hakodate Cable Car Station. Those who drive themselves can drive to the Hakodate Mountain Cable Car Station or the paid parking lot at the top of the mountain, but there are not many parking spaces. Sometimes there will be restrictions when there are too many people, and other vehicles except buses and taxis cannot go up the mountain.
I arrived at the #Hakodateshan Cable Car Station at around 4pm. The cable car station will display the sunset time and visibility at the top of the mountain for the day. Everyone can consider whether to go up the mountain. The views are also spectacular during the day, and there is almost no queue for the cable car. But everyone comes here for the night view, and the later you come, the more crowded the crowds are. The cable car ticket for the mountain is 1,200 yen for a one-way trip and 1,800 yen for a round trip. It is recommended to buy a round trip ticket because the crowds on the return trip are so terrifying that they seem like they are fleeing. The cable car goes down the mountain at the fastest speed, running every 3 to 5 minutes and can carry 125 people.
The Hakodate Observatory is divided into two floors. The bottom floor, where the cable car just comes in, is a glass area. The advantage is that you don’t have to worry about getting cold even in winter, and there are basic seats where you can sit down and wait for nightfall. But the disadvantage is that there will be reflections when shooting night scenes. When the weather is good, the outdoor area will basically be crowded with people and tripods. Sitting on the steps and slowly waiting for the night to fall, the night view of Hakodate has also been described as like a scattered jewel box. There is no light pollution and no air pollution. The #MillionNightView of Hakodate is really intoxicating. You can visit the souvenir shop before going down the mountain and then line up for the cable car. I recommend it to everyone.
