[Hokkaido: Hakodate] Enjoy the spectacular view from the star-shaped fortress, one of Japan's 100 most famous castles

Goryokaku is a rare star-shaped fortress (bastion-style fortress) in Japan and is designated as one of the 100 most famous castles in Japan.
It is said that it took seven years to build by the shogunate in preparation for the opening of the port to the north.
It is now open to the public as Goryokaku Park, and you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom every year around Golden Week!
The view of Goryokaku from the nearby Goryokaku Tower is spectacular!
Please note that the cherry blossoms will bloom early in 2022 and may be over by Golden Week!


There are multiple ways to get there, such as taking a shuttle bus from JR Hakodate Station to Goryokaku Tower for about 15 minutes
or walking about 10 minutes from the entrance to Goryokaku Park.
