Hakodate is considered one of Japan's top three night views, along with Mount Maya and Mount Inasa.
This place offers a panoramic view of Hakodate's bright nightscape and the vast ocean.
Now that direct flights to Incheon are available, it's a spot you can visit anytime without any problems.
Mount Hakodate is one of those top three night views.
We'll share six tips you might miss!
1) Buses are convenient for round trips.
The ropeway is often associated with Mount Hakodate.
However, direct buses run regularly from Hakodate Station.
Of course, the ropeway, which is rarely seen and offers beautiful views, is understandable.
However, at 1,400 yen round trip, it's about 400 yen cheaper than the ropeway's 1,800 yen round trip! Moreover, since it's on the JR Hakodate Line, a major transportation hub, it's conveniently connected to the airport and hotels.
It's the perfect place to relax after a morning's schedule and then head out to see the sights.
Taking the bus home is also much more convenient.
The ropeway wait time right after the night view is about 100 minutes.
However, you can easily board the bus with a 10-15 minute wait.
You can even take a seat in 20-25 minutes.
I encourage you to choose the best option based on your personal preferences.
2) Even buses have a certain charm!
Despite their low cost, the bus definitely has its charm.
You can enjoy the scenery from the occasional tree-cutting vantage point!
The driver is also kind enough to give you advance warning and slow down.
The bus loops around both sides, and you can even enjoy the view at night.
Be sure to have your phone ready when you're waiting!
3) Colder than expected (July)
It's quite chilly even in midsummer due to the high altitude. Many people even wear long sleeves up the mountain. If you're climbing on a summer day, it's a good idea to pack extra layers!
4) The concession stand is primarily focused on souvenirs, and the restaurants are expensive.
The concession stand primarily sells souvenirs. Snacks are also limited to souvenirs, making it difficult to find something to eat right away. The snack shop next door is also expensive, and the food at the restaurant isn't exactly cheap. Bring a packed lunch or something similar!
5) You don't have to insist on going to a high place!
People often climb over and over again to get a higher view.
But even from the summit or the first floor, you can enjoy a panoramic view.
Furthermore, there are many sights you can't see from the top due to the angle.
Behave appropriately depending on the crowds and your personal values.
6) Waiting will get you to the main viewing area.
The highest floor, the very front. It might seem out of reach for everyone, but patience is key. I was able to get to the front of the line in about 10 minutes after stepping onto the top floor. Thanks to everyone's consideration, I was able to quickly feel at ease. "Well, I came all this way, so I should see it." Incidentally, I also left in 3 minutes, haha.
The key timing is, of course, when the trains start heading home!
The best time is right before the last bus or two arrive.
I hope things will be orderly in this relatively quiet(?) area.
Thankfully, the police are keeping order!
That's all for the Hakodate Mount tips!
It's not easy to see a million-dollar view.
If you want to feel more open-minded than anyone else, don't miss this place!
