Hakone in Kanagawa Prefecture is famous for its hot springs, and you can fully experience the healing and relaxing atmosphere. If you only go to Hakone Yumoto, you can go back and forth in one day from Tokyo, and transportation is convenient. Hakone Yumoto is a mountain pass and the only way to enter the Hakone scenic area. Hakone Yumoto Onsen is the largest hot spring town among the 17 hot springs in Hakone. There is a waterfall street full of hot spring atmosphere, a bustling shopping street in front of the station with souvenir shops, and the Fujiya Hotel which even the emperor loves to visit. Overlooking the beautiful Hayakawa River, there was a red bridge called "Hitabashi Bridge" but it was renamed "Hydrangea Bridge" in 1996 in order to further develop Hakone, which has many hydrangea spots. For day-time hot springs, choose Hakone Kamon (かもん), which has an open-air pool and is very comfortable.
It’s a rare opportunity to take a self-guided trip to Hakone, so you can’t go back empty-handed, right? We recommend that you spend more time strolling around the Hakone Yumoto Shopping Street, which has 70 shops, cafes, and souvenir shops. The must-eat hot spring buns and fish cakes in Hakone are also sold there.
