Once you visit Hakone, you'll be enchanted for life! This heavenly hot spring town just 90 minutes from Tokyo is so captivating I've visited three times already~ This time I specifically stayed in Yumoto Onsen to experience the most authentic Japanese hot spring culture ♨️
🌟Must-visit recommendations:
【Hakone Yumoto Onsen Street】
The starting point of all Hakone hot springs, this nostalgic street is lined with century-old traditional ryokans. Highly recommend "Fujiya Ryokan" with rooms featuring private open-air baths - soaking under the stars is incredibly romantic!
Must-buy souvenirs from the hot spring street:
✔️Onsen manju (steamed buns - the most authentic at old Matsumotoya near the station)
✔️Black eggs (boiled in hot spring water, the whites turn black)
✔️Wooden crafts (super cute Daruma dolls)
【Yumoto Station Foot Bath】
Located on the 2nd floor of the station! Free foot soaking while waiting for trains, with perfect 42°C water and massage stones. Don't forget to buy an onsen towel (about ¥500) on the 1st floor.
📝Practical tips:
1. Always shower before entering the baths, tie up long hair
2. If you have tattoos, book a ryokan with private baths
3. Bring a light jacket for temperature changes between day and night
4. Highly recommend the Hakone Free Pass (includes all transportation + attraction discounts)
🚇Transportation guide:
Take the "Romancecar" express from Shinjuku Station (about 85 minutes) - choose right-side seats for Mt. Fuji views~
