When traditional landscapes collide with mythological narratives
When brush and ink techniques meet contemporary art
The new exhibition "Edge Tricks" at Zhejiang Art Museum
Invites you to encounter a contemporary deconstruction of the order of mountains and waters
.
🔍 About the Exhibition
✅ Zhang Dazhen reconstructs a landscape world rooted in mythology, breaking my fixed perception of traditional Chinese painting. Some works are as colorful as fairy tale secret realms, others layered like ancient lost cities. Each piece feels like stepping into the mythological universe he has created.
✅ The hanging, layered paintings transform landscapes into an inner mythical kingdom. The brushwork combines the traditional skills of the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, with a balance of firmness and softness in the rendering of trees and rocks; at the same time, it is full of the visual impact of contemporary art, with rich and elegant color blending. Ink and color each have their own charm yet harmoniously coexist.
