For foodies and budget travelers, this city is a must-visit! Ho Chi Minh City isn't just known for its chic cafes and French architecture. The food is top-notch! Affordable prices and unique flavors are sure to surpass your expectations!
This trip will feature delicious, affordable, and easily accessible restaurants for those looking to sample local cuisine. We guarantee you won't be disappointed.
🥖 1. Banh Mi – Vietnamese Bread
A must-try! The bread is incredibly crispy, with a satisfying crunching sound when you bite into it.
The inside is packed with pork sausage, shredded pork, liver pate, mayonnaise, and fresh vegetables. The perfect balance of saltiness and richness, with the perfect aroma of bread.
❗️The biggest surprise is… the size! It's so huge! One piece can easily be shared among 4-5 people.
📍Sold along the roadside and in small storefronts throughout District 1.
🐚 2. Quan Oc Van – A top-notch local oyster restaurant
If you're in Vietnam and don't try the oysters, you'd be missing out! Fresh, firm shellfish grilled with fragrant butter. You can order them in a variety of ways, including scallops and sweet clams.
But the highlight is the chili, salt, and lime dipping sauce. Dip it in and it's bursting with flavor! Spicy, sour, salty, and full of flavor!
🍻 Pair it with a cold Vietnamese beer! It's so good!
📍 A small, local-style restaurant, it's packed with both tourists and locals.
🥢 3. Nem Nuong Nia – Vietnamese Nem Nuong
A traditional Nem Nuong dish served with lots of vegetables and Vietnamese rice paper.
🌟 Our favorite is the "crispy fried rice paper," available only at some restaurants!
These raw rice papers don't need to be soaked in water; you can just add the filling and eat them right away. I was a little confused at first, but it was so delicious! They soften in your mouth!
🍮 4. Coffee Custard Pudding
I was walking past and smelled the faint aroma of coffee, so I bought some to try. "Unexpectedly delicious."
The pudding is smooth and melts in your mouth, with just the right amount of sweetness and a subtle coffee aroma, a perfect contrast to the hot weather.
📍Sold at street vendors and stalls in District 1.
🍜 5. Bun Thit Nuong Kieu Bao – Vietnamese Grilled Pork Rice Noodles
This dish may look ordinary, but the taste is extraordinary!
Fragrant grilled pork is served with dry rice noodles and a dipping sauce similar to our local nam jad or satay.
Fresh, crisp vegetables make it refreshing and delicious. A simple yet addictive dish.
🍲 6. Pho Viet Nam (District 1) – Pho Worth Trying
This restaurant is a must-try if you're looking for pho in Ho Chi Minh City.
The broth is incredibly fragrant and simmered well. The meat is fresh and flavorful, and the noodles are perfectly tender and not mushy.
🌿 Fresh vegetables and basil, typical Vietnamese style, add a unique flavor.
❗️Recommended by locals and found in numerous reviews. It truly lives up to its reputation.
🍕 7. Vietnamese Pizza (Bánh Tráng Nuớng)
Their pizza doesn't use Western-style pizza dough, but uses "Vietnamese rice paper," grilled until crispy, then topped with egg, dried shrimp, fried shallots, pork sausage, and cheese.
Eat it while it's hot—it's fragrant, crispy, and incredibly delicious.
📍It's very easy to find, found on food carts or street vendors in the market area.
🥭 8. Mango Salad Rice Paper Rolls
A truly local snack, sold by street vendors.
Using Vietnamese rice paper rolls as a base, they're topped with a sweet, sour, salty, and spicy mango salad.
It's similar to our local mango salad, but with its own unique charm. It's incredibly addictive.
🛒 9. BIG C Vietnam – Tons of souvenirs!
If you're in Ho Chi Minh City, don't forget to stop here.
🛍 Vietnamese instant noodles are delicious, and they come in many flavors.
🍺 Cheap Vietnamese beer.
🧂 I even found some salt for dipping clams. (Similar to Quan Oc Van) Sold with a mission complete!
💸 Summary
• Very affordable Vietnamese food, you can eat as much as you want and still stay within your budget.
• Search for each restaurant's location on Google Maps.
• The food has its own unique flavor, but most are popular with Thais.
• And most importantly...
❗️Wet wipes in restaurants aren't free! If you don't need them, don't open them, as there's a separate fee. 😅
