Big Wave Bay: Surfing Hong Kong’s Laid-Back Break

#hkwatersports
Surfing at Big Wave Bay was a refreshing escape tucked into Hong Kong Island’s eastern coastline. Known for its mellow swells and chill surfer vibe, it’s the city’s go-to spot for beginners and casual riders. I rented a board from a local shop and joined a friendly crowd catching waves beneath misty skies. The beach, framed by green hills and prehistoric rock carvings, felt worlds away from the urban rush. It’s quieter than Shek O but full of character. Easily reached by bus from Shau Kei Wan, Big Wave Bay is perfect for a spontaneous surf session or a peaceful beach day.
