Urban Whispers – Knitting Impressions Exhibition

#SeptemberGoodPlaces2025
Location: Hong Kong Design Centre (G/F, DX Design Hall, 280 Tung Chau Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon)
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Hong Kong was the world's third-largest textile exporter. However, due to economic restructuring and rising costs, the textile industry gradually moved north after 1990, but textiles remain a vital part of Hong Kong's cultural crafts.
City structures vary, and this exhibition hopes to allow viewers to see Hong Kong beyond its skyscrapers. The series features various architectural images woven with five colors of needlework. These include the iconic City Hall, the historic Murray House, and the minimalist, modern Jardine House, all of which evoke nostalgic scenes for Hong Kongers. The exhibition floor is also printed with various Hong Kong motifs, such as iron gates and floor tiles. A large LED screen at the top showcases the process of creating the artwork, from original design to design and production. Stitch by stitch, weave the feelings of Hong Kong; touch by touch, feel the warmth of the city.
