Wan Chai's century-old revitalization miracle - Wan Chai Blue House

Walking through Stonewater Street, the sun shines on the blue walls, and a breeze brings the smell of old times. Imagine that in 1872, this was once the "Hua Tuo Hospital". Neighbors lined up to see the hospital, children studied at a volunteer school, and there was an English school upstairs - Yi Middle School. In the 1950s, the martial arts hall was loud and lively. Wong Fei-hung's apprentice Lin Zu was teaching boxing. The neighbors gathered around to watch. It was very lively.
Then, times changed, and the exterior of the Blue House was painted blue by accident, becoming today's photo hotspot. But it’s not just a blue townhouse, it’s a living community memory. After revitalization, it became the “Hong Kong Story Museum”, where the old residents still live. Exhibitions, guided tours, and concerts make history no longer a book, but a dialogue between you and me.
You don’t just visit, but traverse – from fishing villages to cities, from medical halls to cultural halls, the Blue House is the best testimony of how Hong Kong lives.
Recommended itinerary route:
From Exit A3 of Wanchai MTR Station, walk through Chun Yuen Street and alleys to reach the Blue House in just 10 minutes. It is recommended to visit the exterior of the building first. The classic blue walls are very photogenic and are especially beautiful for photos in daylight. Afterwards, you can stroll inside and explore the exhibition hall, displaying household items from different eras, old daily necessities, recreating the life scenes of past residents and experiencing local culture firsthand.
Must-play items and photo spots:
1. Blue House exterior and old stairs: the most iconic photo spots, many IG enthusiasts will take pictures here.
2. Community Museum: The Hong Kong Story Museum tells the history of Wanchai and life in old Hong Kong, and sees many precious artifacts.
3. Community shops: Local shops such as Blue House Teahouse offer authentic drinks and snacks.
Notes:
- The pavilion space is limited, please keep quiet and do not make loud noises.
- Do not touch the exhibits at will and love the historical artifacts.
- The streets near the Blue House are steeper, so it is advisable to wear light shoes when walking.
