Both water sources originate from the Truong Son Mountains.
The right tributary, Hu Trac River, which is shorter than the left tributary, Ta Trac River, passes Tuan Wharf where the two tributaries meet, Bangrang River.
The river then flows southwest, passing the temples of Hon Trem and Ngoc Tran, then northwest, passing Nguyen Bieu and Luong Quan Plain. It continues to flow northeast, into Hue City, then passes the rest of the Nguyen Dynasty, then passes Hen Island and many villages, and crosses the confluence of Xin and flows into Tam Giang Lagoon.
The dawn, sunset, and night views of the Huong River and Trang Tien Bridge are must-see attractions in Hue.
