In Ipoh's old town, the Birch Memorial Clock Tower is a proud representation of the architectural attractiveness and history of British colonisation. The clock tower was built in 1909 to honour James W.W. Birch, the first British resident of Perak. It has four clock faces, elaborate carvings, and a dome with ornamental figurines that symbolise the progress of civilisation.
