On my summer vacation to Istanbul, visiting the Grand Bazaar was a highlight that I still can’t stop thinking about! Located in the heart of the city, this iconic market is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped by a maze of over 4,000 shops, each one brimming with colorful goods—from beautiful carpets and textiles to intricate jewelry and handmade ceramics.
There’s no entrance fee, which is great because you’ll want to save your money for shopping! I found myself haggling over a gorgeous Turkish lamp and some spices that I couldn’t resist taking home. The experience of bargaining with the friendly vendors is all part of the charm.
Nearby, you can explore other historic sites like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, both just a short walk away. Plus, taking a break at a nearby café for some Turkish tea and baklava is a must after navigating the bustling alleys of the bazaar.
The Grand Bazaar is a sensory overload in the best way possible—full of vibrant colors, sounds, and smells that capture the essence of Istanbul. It's a must-visit for anyone wanting to dive into the city's rich culture and history.
