Türkiye Travel Notes Izmir Kadifekale Castle overlooking the city

Kadifekale Castle, also known as the Velvet Castle, is a magnificent castle ruins. It was a military fortress built by Lysimachus, a Macedonian general under Alexander, mainly to prevent the invasion of the Persians.

We chose to walk up from the hotel. It was quite tiring walking on a sloping road with stairs on a hot day. If you don't want to walk, you can also take the bus up.

This is still an important attraction in Izmir. There is an observation deck on it, from which you can see the beautiful scenery of Izmir Bay and the entire city!
