Monas is a beautiful historical place and has many meanings. In 1955 President Soekarno held a design competition to create a monument commemorating the struggle for independence of the Indonesian nation. This competition was conducted in two periods, namely 1955 and 1960. Silaban's design was successfully selected in the first competition, but in the next competition, none of his works were selected. President Soekarno then decided to ask Silaban again to redesign the National Monument in accordance with his concept of thinking in the form of Linga and Yoni. Besides Silaban, there are several other architects who were also involved in the construction of Monas, namely R.M. Soedarsono. Monas was officially built on August 17, 1961 and opened to the public on July 12, 1975. The National Monument or popularly called Monas is a memorial monument which has a height of 132 meters or about 433 feet and was built in an area of ​​80 hectares. Monas itself has a beauty that is located at the top of the monument because there is a tongue of fire covered by gold sheets which depicts a fighting spirit of the Indonesian Nation that is blazing like fire.
