Explore the Japan Alps with a popular scenic route:
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route
🚞Toyama Prefecture, Chubu Region
The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route (立山黒部アルペンルート) is one of the four main mountain and scenic routes in the Japan Alps. During the tour, you'll travel by train, tram, bus, and ropeway to the highest point, which is over 3,015 meters high.
Located in the Tateyama mountain range, nearby is the Kurobe Dam, with the final destination being Nagano Prefecture.
The Japan Alps span four prefectures:
Toyama, Nagano, Gifu, and Shizuoka.
However, the other routes are more suitable for mountain climbers or
adventurers, unlike the Kurobe Route. This is a scenic tour route that takes about 4 hours. I recommend making it a day trip, O!
This route is normally open from mid-April to the end of November. I recommend coming in spring to see the Snow Wall Festival (Yuki no Otani) from mid-April to the end of June.
Both sides of the route are covered with 18-meter-high white snow, created by snow clearing from all over the area.
・Access: Haneda Airport is the closest, O!
From there, take the train from Dentetsu Toyama Station
to Tateyama Station, where you'll change trains.
The journey from Toyama City takes about an hour.
From there, you can purchase tickets to various points on the mountain.
・Fare for this route:
One-way ticket from Tateyama Station to Ogizawara
Adults 10,940 yen, Children 5,480 yen
Round-trip ticket from Dentetsu Toyama Station to Nagano
Adults 28,340 yen, Children 14,180 yen
