This time, there were only two of us traveling and we wanted to try driving ourselves instead of taking the train. It turned out to be both fun and convenient beyond expectations. If you're traveling with a group, it's definitely worth it. The price is almost the same as public transportation, plus you get to see several places in one day. The scenery along the way is stunning, and there are rest stops along the way.

📄 What to bring:

International Driving Permit (Geneva Convention type, valid for 1 year)
Travel Card or credit card (we used SCB Planet)
You can pay online when booking, no additional deposit required.
On the day you return the car, you only pay for the tolls (cards accepted) and gas (we recommend paying in cash, as some gas stations don't accept foreign cards).

You can plan your trip wherever you want, no need to worry about train schedules.
There's a guidebook available in both Thai and English.

We drove from Tokyo onto the expressway and it was very clear. The drive was comfortable and stress-free.

The rental shop provided excellent service. The staff were lovely and provided very detailed advice.

🚦Just a word of warning: traffic is seriously bad on the way back to Tokyo in the evening! If you're driving from out of town, I recommend leaving extra time so you can return the car in time.
