Jerusalem's Twin Holy Mountains - Mount of Olives and Mount Zion (I)

The Mount of Olives is located to the east of the Old City of Jerusalem. It is named after the olive trees that grow on the mountain. The Mount of Olives is the highest mountain in Jerusalem, with an altitude of 808 meters. Standing on the mountain and looking into the distance, you can get a glimpse of the entire Old City and Jerusalem.

There are many attractions on the Mount of Olives. You can walk down the mountain along the following route and visit the attractions in order:

The Chapel of Ascension
The Ascension Church is a very small church. It would be more appropriate to call it a ruin rather than a church. According to legend, a stone and some footprints were found here, so a church was built on the original site as a memorial. The entrance fee to the Ascension Church is ILS5 (HKD11) and the opening hours are from 8am to 1pm.

The Pater Noster Church
Like Jerusalem, the Church of the Lord's Prayer has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. It was finally rebuilt in 1874 by an Italian princess, who placed the Lord's Prayer tablets in 39 languages she collected in the church. Today, the Church of the Lord's Prayer has the Lord's Prayer tablet in 140 languages, including a Chinese version. The entrance fee to the Church of the Lord’s Prayer is ILS10 (HKD22) and the opening hours are from 8am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm.

Seven Arches Hotel
The observation deck in front of the Seven Arches Hotel offers a great view of the Old City of Jerusalem. The classic scene of Jerusalem that often appears in international news - the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount - can also be seen from here. The observation deck is free to visit and open 24 hours a day.

Dominus Flevit Church
Going down from the Mount of Olives, you can find the Church of the Lord's Weeping halfway up the hill. The shape of the church is like a teardrop, symbolizing tears, and there is a tear bottle decoration on each of the four corners of the church. The most special thing about the church is that you can take photos of Jerusalem with the cross as the main body, and there are also good views of the Old City and the Golden Dome of the Rock. Admission to the Church of the Lord is free and the opening hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a break from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
